Understanding How Time and MDM Drive the New Inpatient Coding Rules & Understanding How Time and MDM Drive Office Visit Coding

Cost: $248

Understanding How Time and MDM Drive Office Visit Coding

Total Runtime: 56 minutes

Do you have a favorite E/M code and you “just stick with it?” Or, does uncertainty keep you coding all low level visits? This webinar will transform uncertainty to certainty in selecting office visits. It answers the questions surgeons ask. When is a visit high complexity? Does data make a difference in the level of service, or should I just ignore that? How do I document surgical risk in order to get credit in the E/M guidelines? How is the level of service changed if I recommend surgery but the patient opts not to have the procedure?

This webinar will review the components of medical decision-making that matter for surgeons. And, in what specific situations using time is the better option.

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a high complexity case based on medical decision-making
  • Document data review that is credited in the guidelines
  • Assess the time statement in their templates and update it as needed

Understanding How Time and MDM Drive the New Inpatient Coding Rules

Total Runtime: 56 minutes

The revised E/M guidelines are extended to hospital inpatient, observation, and emergency department visits in 2023. Inpatient and observation services are collapsed into two categories. Surgeons will need to select the right type of code and the right level of code for services performed in the hospital. This webinar will show how to apply new concepts in the guidelines including escalation of care in the hospital. It will describe the CPT definitions for major and minor surgery and for elective and emergent surgery, as they relate to selecting the correct level of service. Because of these changes, surgical practices can update the templates for hospital services in ways that will save surgeon’s time.

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the codes used for inpatient and observation services
  • Apply the CPT definitions of major/minor risk and elective/emergent procedures to coding
  • Update their hospital templates
